This is where you will create a response to a Humanities artifact from the thematic unit. Please review the full instructions carefully on Blackboard.
Remember: Journal of Reflective Engagement entries engage the artifacts from the thematic unit—not artifacts from outside the course.
Students can create Journal entries that respond to the content of the thematic unit in ONE of TWO ways:
A creative response (an original poem/painting/song, etc.) to ONE or more Humanities artifacts accompanied by a shorter (200+ words) reflection.
A longer (500+ words) written reflection to TWO or more Humanities artifacts.
A creative response (an original poem/painting/song, etc.) to ONE or more Humanities artifacts accompanied by a shorter (200+ words) reflection.
A longer (500+ words) written reflection to TWO or more Humanities artifacts.
The purpose of the reflection is to articulate your subjective response to the artifact (intellectual and emotional; how did the artifacts make you feel) , and to identify the attributes of the artifact (form, style, content, etc.) that made you respond the way you did.
Remember: Journal entries are graded using specific criteria that differ from the criteria used to grade Participation assignments.
To earn a top grade, ALL Journals, whether a creative response + shorter reflection OR a longer reflection, must include a list (not a paragraph) of the following information for each artifact engaged:
• Author/artist/ Date for each artifact. (specific if known, general if not)
• Historical/cultural context of author / creator (if known)
• Historical/cultural context of artifact
• Aesthetics of disruption? Aesthetics of beauty? Both?
